CIVIL ENGINEER:
YEAR(S): 2001 - 2006
DESCRIPTION: A new residential community and commercial areas on 960 acres of former agricultural land.
SCOPE OF SERVICES:
GEC prepared a Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessment on a 960-acre agricultural Site containing a farm maintenance complex, houses, and farm fields. As a result of the initial site assessment, numerous environmental issues were identified including toxaphene at elevated levels in the farm fields, buried transformers, underground storage tanks, underground fuel tanks, above ground storage tanks, and groundwater wells. GEC conducted an extensive soil investigation and a feasibility study on the remedial options. Buried transformers and PCB-impacted soils were removed from the Site, and toxaphene-impacted soils were remediated through ADEQ's Voluntary Remediation Program (VRP). GEC prepared a Work Plan, QAPP, Remedial Action Plan, and Site Closure Report. ADEQ issued a No Further Action (NFA) letter on the first half of the Site, along with a DEUR. GEC is working on the toxaphene remediation of the second half of the Site through VRP. GEC also investigated and remediated impacted soils and trash pits at the maintenance and housing areas through the VRP. We worked with ADEQ to get a NFA letter for the future development of these areas. GEC also conducted geotechnical explorations and construction observation and materials testing on the first half of the development.
