Glendale Arena for Phoenix Coyotes

DESCRIPTION: The project is part of the 223-acre master-planned development and hockey arena. The overall project will include a significant amount of retail, office, residential, and mixed use development, which will surround a new hockey arena, an 18,500-seat multi-purpose sports and entertainment facility for the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes.
SCOPE OF SERVICES:
Geotechnical
GEC conducted preliminary and final geotechnical investigations for the arena. The arena structure will have an event level, which is 30 feet below the existing ground surface, and the structure will be supported by large spread and mat-type foundations with column loads on the order of 2,500 kips. GEC developed recommendations various foundation types, different bearing depths, and a wide range of loading conditions.
Construction Materials Testing
GEC has provided engineering technicians, special inspectors, and engineers to perform construction observation, testing and inspection services for mass grading; installation of a permanent soil-nail wall; foundation excavations; rebar placement for foundations, walls, columns, and decks; and inspection of structural concrete placement for foundations, walls, columns, and decks.
