DESCRIPTION: A new regional mall development that included over 1.3 million square feet of retail and commercial space. Site area is 100 acres with 6,200 spaces parking. Major Anchors are Nordstrom, Dillard's, Robinson's-May, and Sears. Chandler Fashion Center is the centerpiece of a 320-acre urban village that will incorporate office parks, a hotel, a conference center and additional retail developments.
SCOPE OF SERVICES:
GEC provided geotechnical investigation and construction observation and testing. The development included lower level and upper level mall areas, four major department stores, a significant amount of asphalt-paved drives and parking areas, off-site roadway improvements, and nearly two miles of concrete storm drain pipe. GEC was responsible for directing various subsurface investigation activities, setting up a laboratory-testing program, and analyzing field and laboratory data for the entire project. GEC provided design recommendations for one and two-story structures supported by either shallow spread footings or a combination of drilled shaft (caisson) foundations and spread footings. Construction observation and testing services included site grading (over 2 million cubic yards of soil), retaining wall construction, cast-in-place concrete pipe construction, and concrete, mortar, grout, and asphalt sampling and testing.
